The Oxford Artisan Distillery Oxford Rye Whisky Batch 1 2017 , 70cl
This is the inaugural (batch 1) rye whisky from The Oxford Artisan Distillery. Produced from a diverse maslin grain harvest in 2017, which featured several different grains grown together in the same field (including ancient heritage rye strains, wheat strains, oats and thistles). The final mash bill contained rye, wheat, and malted barley. Fermented in Hungarian oak vats, the subsequent spirit was then matured in virgin American oak casks.
From a limited Release of just 502 Bottles.
The organic heritage grain was grown in sandy soils just 7 miles from the distillery. This included multiple ancient heritage rye strains, wheat strains and even some oats and a few thistles! This mix gives the whisky its unique, signature flavour.
About the distillery
The Oxford Artisan Distillery opened in July 2017 but closed in 2024 as the brand morphed into Fielden Whisky at a new site. It was the first legal distillery to be based in Oxford and was partly founded by music mogul Tom Nicolson. They produced a range of spirits including, Gin, Absinthe, Vodka and Rye Whiskey.
Get this while you can as no more will be produced as the distillery is now shuttered!
The distilleryâs grain actually improves soil health in the English countryside - it is grown specifically for the distillery, making The Oxford Artisan Distillery the only distillery in the world with a license to use these strains of heritage grains, farmed exclusively for flavour and not volume of crop.
