How We Choose What Goes Into Digital Distiller

Every bottle on Digital Distiller has been chosen individually rather than bought in bulk from a wholesaler list. We focus on English spirits, and English whisky above all, bringing in smaller, independent producers that you won't easily find on a supermarket shelf. That runs across English Whisky, English Gin, English Rum and English Liqueurs, alongside a smaller range of brandy, vodka and no and low alcohol spirits.

Finding Your Way Around

If you already know what you're after, our category pages are the quickest way in: English Whisky, English Gin, English Rum and English Liqueurs. If you're after something specific, our Award Winning English Spirits collection gathers bottles that have picked up recognition from independent judges, and English Spirits Gifts is built for buying for someone else rather than yourself.

How to Choose

If English whisky is new to you, start with a well known distillery's flagship bottling before moving on to cask-specific or limited releases; a flagship gives you a fair sense of house style before you explore further. For gin, decide whether you want a classic London Dry style or something more flavoured, since English gin covers both. Rum and liqueurs tend to be more occasion-led: spiced rum and cream liqueurs both suit colder months, while white rum and citrus-forward liqueurs lean towards warmer ones.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Are all your spirits made in England?

A: Yes, our focus is English spirits specifically, with English whisky as our core category. We occasionally carry a small number of non-English bottles where they add genuine value to the range, and we're always clear about origin on the product page.

Q: What's the difference between English whisky and Scotch?

A: Both are malt or grain whisky matured in wooden casks, but English whisky is a newer category: most English distilleries only began producing again from the 2000s onwards, after a gap of more than a century, so the range of styles and ages is still developing.

Q: Do you only sell whisky?

A: No. Whisky is our largest category, but we also carry English gin, rum, liqueurs, brandy, vodka and a growing range of no and low alcohol spirits.

Q: How do you decide which producers to work with?

A: We look for independent English producers making spirits with genuine character, usually smaller operations that aren't already widely available in supermarkets or large chains.
