5 Blow-Your-Mind English Whiskies for Father's Day
Hard as it is to narrow down the seriously excellent array of English Whiskies that we now stock at Digital Distiller, here are 5 absolute crackers that showcase the best of what's on offer!
Retribution Distilling Single Malt English Whisky, 70cl, 53.3% Alc.

Made from the same new make spirit as their first release, Retribution Distilling's 2nd Release of their Single Malt whisky has been aged in an ex Buffalo Trace Bourbon quarter cask for 3 years 4 months.
Big notes of orange/citrus and vanilla on the nose with Retribution's characteristic thick creamy mouth feel with a slight warming pepperiness to the finish.
Alex's Tasting Note: Creme Brûlée and marshmallow on the nose with a hint of lime peel. Opens up to peaches and cream. There is a super attractive lemon sherbert freshness in the mouth balanced with gentle malt flavours. Very harmonious and smooth given the 53.3% strength. The whisky opens up further with water revealing more ripe green appley fruit, vanilla notes... toffee even, and a pinch of szechuan pepper. Very complex and moreish, especially given its age!
With only 170 bottles of this actually produced, this is very limited availability indeed.
The English Distillery Founders' Private Cellar - 17 Year Old Portuguese Cabernet Sauvignon Cask, 70cl, 55.3% Alc.

This Founder’s Private Cellar is an incredibly rare release - a bottling that only happens when a cask has exceeded The English Distillery's high expectations of rich character and depth. Distilled in 2007, this complex whisky has quietly rested for 17 years. The resulting single malt from the long wait is wonderful.
Nose: Aromas of dates, toffee and dark chocolate.
Palate: Red fruits, apples and brown sugar
Finish: Full bodied with a medium to long, dry finish
Bottled at cask strength. Non-chill filtered. Natural colouring. This is currently one of the oldest age statement whiskies currently available from England.
Dartmoor Distillery Bordeaux Cask Matured Whisky, 70 cl, 46% Alc.

Dartmoor Distillery Sherry Cask Whisky is part of a range of beautiful whiskies made in its rare Cognac still with barley grown at Preston Farm, Dartmoor, and malted at the famous Warminster Maltings.
In contrast to many sherry expressions that are only finished in sherry casks, Dartmoor age their Sherry whisky in Oloroso sherry casks from start to finish - this gives plenty of time for the spirit to take on a rich, golden colour, sherry aromas and a complex flavour profile.
Sweet sherry, hazelnut, coconut, marzipan and sultanas on the palate, with hints of gingerbread and treacle.
This barrel comes from the Jerez region in Spain where sherry is produced. These casks are some of the most exclusive and expensive we purchase because of the beautifully sweet and rich flavours they impart on whisky.
Whittaker's Ex-Pedro Ximenez Cask English Whisky, 70cl, 54.8%

This Ex-Pedro Ximenez 54.8% Alc. English Whisky Single Malt was released in April 2025 and is a marriage of two individual casks both made with Laureate barley.
This is a beautifully smooth full-bodied sherry aged whisky with lots of heavy fruits like Christmas pudding, figs and almonds.
Only 355 bottles made, so very limited availability.
Whittaker's use predominantly ex-Bourbon, ex-Sherry and ex-Rum casks, so look out for these different expressions. The distillery have new cask finishes in the pipeline so stay primed for more great options in the future. The climate in this part of the world is temperate, so, not only is it the best place to produce cattle and sheep, but it also happens to be excellent for maturing casks.

Nose: chocolate cherries, barbecued banana and forest floor

Finish: long and velvety with winter spices and tobacco leaf
Only 938 bottles produced.
“I’ve been waiting in quiet anticipation for these dark fired bourbon casks to reach maturity; I’m delighted to share them with you now. The intense hickory smoke from the casks has softened over time. A gentle wood smoke and earthiness remains, reminiscent of evenings enjoyed with friends around a campfire. This is a vibrant and evocative whisky, perfect for enjoying fireside – be that in the great outdoors, or beside a cosy hearth.” - Abbie Jaume, Head Distiller
