Spirit of the Downs Moreish Morello Cherry Brandy Liqueur, 70cl
Moreish Morello is Spirit of the Downs' cherry liqueur, made on the distillery's own grape spirit with Morello cherries from Sussex and Kent. It is bottled at 20% Alc. and shows both sides of the cherry: crushed ripe red and black cherries, with a hint of almond behind them.
The judges at the Great Taste Awards gave it a star in 2026, noting a good balance of sweetness and a distinct flavour that picks out both the red and the black cherry. That balance is what we look for in a fruit liqueur: the cherry stays clear enough to work in a drink as well as on its own.
It can be enjoyed neat, over ice or poured over crushed ice. It also makes a long highball spritzer, and the judges suggested it for an Old Fashioned or a Kir Royale. We would make that Kir Royale with English sparkling wine, which keeps the whole glass in the South Downs.
Spirit of the Downs distil at Bookers Vineyard in Bolney, West Sussex, working with grapes from the county's vineyards for their brandies, grape spirit and vodka. Moreish Morello has also been featured on Alan Titchmarsh's Love Your Weekend. In our view it is one of the more versatile English liqueurs available, and a good choice as a gift for anyone who enjoys cherry flavours or likes to mix a drink at home.
