Matured in a mix of ex-red wine NEOC, ex-rye whiskey, ex-bourbon, and refill sherry casks. Vanilla custard, cola cubes, and baked apple on the nose; ginger biscuits, dried fig, and rye spice on the palate. A long finish with tingling rye warmth.

Smoked Cask Single Malt Whisky

100ml | 56.1% Alc.

A cask series release cold-smoked using local fuels. Smoked paprika and coal fire on the nose; salted caramel and dark chocolate on the palate. The most intense expression in the set.

Best enjoyed with a few drops of water at this strength.

New-Make Malt Spirit

100ml | 47% Alc.

Unaged spirit, double-distilled from 100% floor-malted English Maris Otter barley in Cooper King's 900-litre Tasmanian copper pot still. Mango, apple, sweet barley, and toffee pennies: this is the raw material that will one day become mature whisky from the distillery.

About Cooper King Distillery

Cooper King was founded in 2016 by Dr. Abbie Neilson and Chris Jaume in Sutton-on-the-Forest, ten miles north of York. The couple built the distillery themselves after a formative trip to Tasmania, where small, pioneering producers showed them how exceptional whisky could be made by hand. Cooper King is England's only self-built whisky distillery, its only net zero energy whisky distillery, and one of the most consistently interesting producers in the English whisky category. Their Expedition Series releases each explore a distinct set of casks from the warehouse; the Pioneer is the current release, with previous Expedition Series expressions including Transatlantic and Embers.

New-make is freshly distilled spirit before it enters a cask: clear, unaged, and technically not yet whisky. To be called whisky in England, a spirit must be matured in oak casks for a minimum of three years.
